I remember decorating the whole house. The looks on the kids faces as they came down on Christmas Morning. Then we’d go to church each child with their favorite gift. Home again the wonderful scents coming from the kitchen. Family coming for Christmas dinner, Grandma, aunts, uncles, kids all over the place. After dinner the guys would retreat to the basement to watch football, the kids would be anxious to open presents, anyone’s presents, they’d read the tags and bring you a gift and wait for you to oooh and ahhh, then go back for another. Cousins and friends would come for dessert and we’d all end up on the floor playing with the toys the kids had gotten.
The family is really spread out now. Some members have passed away. Mom’s house burned last year, so until they finish the rehab we have smaller Christmas dinners at my daughter’s. We have a new generation now, I can’t wait for them to have Christmas at Nanna’s, hopefully next year.
